If there are several computers connected to a common network, it is often necessary to restrict access to the Internet for any of them. This can be done using special services built into Windows.
Necessary
- - computer with Internet access;
- - Administrator's rights.
Instructions
Step 1
When a computer joins a work or public local area network, you can restrict access to its resources for other users. Note that this method is not recommended if a network printer or other shared device is also connected to the computer. Also, to restrict network access from other computers, you must have system administrator rights.
Step 2
Configure Windows Firewall. From the Start menu, open the System Control Panel. On the System and Security tab, select Windows Firewall. Next, go to the "Turn Firewall On or Off" option. For each of the available network types, select the check boxes next to Enable Firewall. Without this step, you will not be able to block access to the network in the future.
Step 3
Navigate to the "Network and Sharing Center". This item is located in the "Network and Internet" service, also accessible through the control panel. Select the Change Sharing Settings option, where you can disable options such as network discovery, printer and file sharing, and enable password-protected network access. When activating the last function, it will be possible to use network access on the computer only by specifying the account login and password.
Step 4
Make sure that only one account is registered on the computer to completely restrict access to all resources. If you have several registered profiles, delete unnecessary ones through the "User Accounts" service in the control panel. Try connecting to this computer from any other PC that is part of the local network to check if the security settings are correct.
