If you have children who can already use the Internet, you probably have more than once the need to deny access to certain sites. Denying access by modifying the hosts file can be viewed as a universal way of partial control over your children's travels across the Internet.
It is necessary
- - a computer
- - access to the Internet
- - administrator rights
Instructions
Step 1
If you have a new operating system (Windows 7 or Vista), you will need administrator rights. Click Start and type notepad in the search box. Find this program in the results, right-click on it, select "run as administrator". In this case, the system may ask you to enter the administrator password. When notepad starts, select File -> Open … from the menu, and copy the path "C: WindowsSystem32driversetc" into the file name entry line.
Step 2
If your operating system is Windows 2000 or XP, you will not need to run as administrator. Just open the Start menu, select "Run …" (Run …), in the input field, copy the path "C: WindowsSystem32driversetc" (in windows 2000 "C: WINNTSystem32driversetc"), press Enter. The etc folder will open, in it you need to find the hosts file and open it using notepad: right-click on it, select "Open with …", select the "Notepad" program in the list that appears.
Step 3
One way or another, the hosts file is open, and we can make changes to it. For example, to block access to the site vkontakte.ru, you need to add the following lines to the end of the file: 127.0.0.1 vkontakte.ru127.0.0.1 vk.com The numbers on the left are the internal ip-address of your own computer, and on the right are the domain names that you want to block. The mechanism is very simple: save the file, reboot the computer, after that, when requesting the vkontakte.ru address, the browser will try to connect not to the VK server, but to itself. Thus, the page simply does not load, the goal is achieved.
