Having your own domain greatly simplifies the process of creating a server on a Windows computer. The built-in IIS component allows users to perform this operation without special technical training, without using additional programs.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Control Panel". Expand the Add or Remove Programs link and expand the Windows Features Add-on (for Windows XP) or expand the Programs and Features node and expand the Turn Windows features on or off link (for Windows 7).
Step 2
Apply the checkbox to the Internet Information Services field and click the Composition button (for Windows XP) or expand the IIS group (for Windows 7). Confirm your choice by clicking the "Next" button and apply the checkboxes in all fields of the dialog box that opens (for Windows XP) or check all the checkboxes (for Windows 7). Save your changes by clicking OK.
Step 3
Insert the Windows XP installation disc into the drive and wait for the installation to complete (for Windows XP). As a result of this action, a new folder named InetPub will be created on the system disk to save all the files necessary for the server to work.
Step 4
Return to the main system menu "Start" and once again go to the "Control Panel" section. Expand the Administration link and drag the new Internet Information Service item onto your computer desktop. Open the created shortcut by double-clicking and expand the "Sites" node.
Step 5
Call the context menu of your server by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item. Go to the "Web site" tab of the dialog box that opens and enter the required information in the appropriate fields. Confirm the application of the changes made by clicking the OK button.
Step 6
Launch your Internet browser and enter https:// localhost in the text box of the address bar. Authorize the launch of the created server by pressing the Enter function key and start working with the server.
