Recently, work on the Internet has become more and more necessary for many users. And if the computer cannot connect to the network, there is a reason for unnecessary worries. Do not be upset! Diagnostics of system failures is not difficult and you can do it yourself.
Instructions
Step 1
Checking the connection. If you frequently use the Internet, the cables connecting the equipment to the computer may become damaged. The first step is to check all cable connections between your computer, modem, and telephone line. Find out if a telephone cord is plugged into the telephone jack. Check if there is a long beep on the phone. Next, check if the telephone cable is correctly installed in the modem. It must be installed in the "Line" connector. If you have an external modem, check the modem's power cable. Make sure it is plugged in: the green Power light on the modem should be on. Also, when using an external modem, you need to check the correct installation of the data cable connecting the modem and the computer. It must be installed in the COM1 or COM2 connector of the computer.
You also need to check if the cable is damaged.
Step 2
Checking the modem settings. Modem settings can be checked using the Phone and Modem Options. Before changing the settings, write down the old settings so that you can revert them.
Click Start and then Control Panel. Select the Phone and Modem Options icon. A window with the Number selection tab will open. Click Change. Check the area code and dialing type - usually pulse is used. Click OK to apply the settings. Go to the Modems tab, select your modem and click the Properties button. Then go to the Diagnostics tab and click the Request a modem button. After that, the modem will be polled to determine if it is installed correctly or not. If a problem is found, a dialog box will appear with information about the error.
Step 3
Reinstalling software. Sometimes the software breaks down, it can interfere with the computer's connection to the Internet. If you notice a problem, reinstall the software. Before installation, read the instructions for your equipment and the settings of your Internet provider. If there is no instruction, then contact the provider by phone and get instructions from him. Be sure to save them for future reference.
Step 4
You can use the Windows Help and Support Center to troubleshoot Internet connection problems. Click Start - Help and Support. Follow the step-by-step diagnostic procedure to resolve the issue.
Step 5
Problems with the Internet can arise if your account is out of money, you entered your username or password incorrectly, or through the fault of the provider. If everything is in order with this, then try closing all running programs and applications and turn off your computer and modem. Wait about 30 seconds, and then turn on the computer. Try to connect to the internet again.
