A firewall, also known as a firewall and firewall, serves both to prevent penetration of the computer from the outside, and to prevent attempts by Trojans that have entered the system to transmit the collected information. In order for user programs to access the network without hindrance, the firewall must be configured correctly.
Instructions
Step 1
Usually, the firewall does not distinguish between user programs and spyware, so the first time you start an application communicating with the network, it starts to sound an alarm. So, the standard Windows firewall displays a warning window asking whether to block this program. You can click the "Block" button, and the application will be denied access to the Internet. Or allow the program to connect to the Internet by clicking the Unblock button, in this case a corresponding rule will be created for it. In this case, there is no need to open the port on purpose, the firewall does everything by itself.
Step 2
In some cases, the user has to purposefully open a specific port. In the standard Windows XP firewall, this is done very simply: open the settings window: "Start - Control Panel - Windows Firewall", select the "Exceptions" tab. Click the "Add port" button, in the window that opens, specify the connection name and port number. The name can be anything. Click "OK", the port will be opened.
Step 3
The firewall in the Windows 7 operating system has more options for configuring and creating rules. To configure it, open: "Start - Control Panel - Windows Firewall", select the "Advanced Settings" tab. In its left part, select the line "Create a rule for incoming connections", then "Create rule" in the right part of the window. The New Rule Wizard will open. In it, select the "For port" item, click "Next". Specify the type of connection protocol, usually TCP. Next, select "Allow the connection" and click "Next". Specify the type of networks for which this rule will work. Enter a name for the rule, click Finish. The rule has been created. In the same way, you can create a rule for outgoing traffic.
Step 4
To open a port in the popular Agnitum Outpost Firewall firewall, expand the main program window, select the "Settings - System" tab. At the bottom of the window, find the item "Global rules and rawsocket access", click the "Rules" button. A window will open, click the "Add" button. Check the boxes "Where is the protocol", "Where is the direction" and "Where is the local port" in the field "Select an event for the rule". Slightly below is the field "Description of the rule", select "Not defined" in the line "Where is the protocol", then in the window that opens, mark the protocol ТСР.
Step 5
In the field "Description of the rule" select "Not defined" in the line "Where is the direction", in the type of connection you need the item "Inbound (from a remote computer to your computer)". In the same field, click "Undefined" in the "Where is the local port" line and enter the port number that you want to open. Check the box "Allow this data" in the "Select actions for the rule" box. Click "OK" - the selected port is open for incoming connections. To open it for outgoing traffic, perform a similar setting, only select the "Outgoing (from your computer to a remote computer)" item.
