In case of reconfiguring network equipment or reinstalling the computer operating system, it becomes necessary to re-set the default gateway and DNS server parameters. This is required in order for the computer to be able to access the Internet normally.
Instructions
Step 1
Get access to the settings of the router or ADSL modem through which you access the Internet or local network. Connect the LAN port of the router and the network card of your computer, then launch the browser and enter its IP address in the address bar. This information should be in the instructions for your network equipment.
Step 2
Enter your account name and enter your password in the form that opens. As a result, you will get access to the settings of the modem or router. Go to the WAN section, there find the item labeled Server Address or "Default Gateway". Enter the required gateway value in this field. Go to the Get DNS Automaticall item and uncheck the box if you want to specify the parameters of DNS servers yourself, then specify the IP address.
Step 3
Click the Apply or Save button to save the gateway settings. Reboot the router for the saved data to take effect. If you access the Internet directly from a personal computer, then the gateway settings are changed in the "Network and Internet" menu.
Step 4
Click on the "Start" button, select the "Control Panel" section and go to the "Network and Internet" menu. Go to the "Network Control Center" and open the item "Change adapter settings". Select the icon of the network card for which you want to set the gateway and network parameters. Click on it with the right mouse button and select the "Properties" function.
Step 5
Go to "Internet Protocol TCP / IP" and click the "Properties" button. Check the box next to Use the following IP address. Specify the current IP address of your computer on the network and the default gateway. Save the network adapter settings, and then the network settings will start updating. Check that the internet has appeared. To do this, you can try to load any page in the browser or ping the network.
