You don't need to have system administrator skills to install a mail server on Windows Server. A little bit of care, of course, doesn't hurt. After installation, be sure to check it.

Instructions

Step 1

Before adding a mail server, set the appropriate role for it. To do this, open the Manage Your Server window and click Add or remove a role. Go to the "Configure your server wizard" window.

Step 2

Select "Mail Server POP3, SMTP" from the drop-down list in the "Server Role" section and click "Next".

Step 3

Enter the correct name of the mail domain that you decided to create (for example, email.com) and click the "Next" button. Open and prepare in advance the folder with the installation files (i386 for Windows XP, sources for Windows Vista, winsxs for Windows 7), as Windows Installer will ask you for the installation files. Click on "Finish".

Step 4

Start creating your account. Open the main Manage Your Server window. Find the Mail Server role you created and added. Click on the "Manage this mail server" button next to it. In the opened POP3 Service directory, find your domain (email.com) and right-click on it. Select from the drop-down list first "New", then - "Mailbox".

Step 5

Come up with a name for your mailbox (for example, test) and set a password for it. Click on the "OK" button, after which the account will be created.

Step 6

Test your account by launching and configuring it in Outlook Express. Enter the login of your mailbox (test) in the "Name" line and click on "Next". Next, enter the address you recently created (test @ email.com). Since you are configuring the mail client on the same computer as the mail server, enter the machine name for the POP3 and SMTP servers.

Step 7

Enter the full mailbox address (test @ email.com) in the "Account name" field, and then the password. Click on "Next". Send an email to another email address to finish checking your mail server.
