What is TIC
Thematic citation index or TIC is an internal mechanism of Yandex. Catalog that determines the authority of the site and, therefore, the position of the site in a certain category. The main task of this indicator is to demonstrate how authoritative the resource is among competitors, i.e. sites of similar subjects.
The principle of operation of the TIC
The thematic citation index is made up of the total weight of referring sites. The total weight consists of two components:
- the number of links leading to the Internet resource;
- the quality of these links - i.e. their significance. The importance of links is determined primarily by the thematic proximity of the linking sites.
In this case, only links from resources indexed by Yandex and not being classified as bulletin boards, forums, blogs, or social networks are taken into account. Yandex does not publish clear algorithms for calculating the thematic citation index and may even change.
Why Yandex is lowering the TIC
A decrease in the index of the thematic citation index can occur for a number of reasons:
1. Pages with links have been removed. The thematic citation index may decrease if, for a number of reasons, pages or even entire sites previously linked to an Internet resource have been deleted.
2. The referring site has been removed from the index. As mentioned earlier, the referring site must be indexed by Yandex. Removing the referencing resource from the index database will lower the TIC.
3. Yandex has marked the site as "useless". According to company representatives, only “natural links” are taken into account in the calculation of TIC, and the resource itself should be “useful” for users. From Yandex's point of view, an Internet resource can be considered useless for a number of reasons:
- the site does not contain original and "useful" content;
- the site contains a large number of links to third-party resources;
- The TIC of the resource was artificially increased by buying links and other actions.
4. Yandex has changed the algorithm for calculating the TIC. It was already noted above that the algorithms for calculating the TIC can be changed. In this case, it is also possible to change the TIC of the resource, including downward.
