Many people are familiar with the desire to fill the tedious wait by visiting their favorite Internet resources, especially in conditions when open Wi-Fi is found in public places: cafes, train stations, airports. This, in turn, allows fraudsters, using open Wi-Fi, to gain access to personal data of users. These are passwords, information about bank cards. And if you can still afford to look through the news of friends on a page on a social network, then not many will decide to turn to Internet banking services.
Of course, using the wireless Internet provides quick access to the information you want. Mobile Internet is significantly inferior in speed to Wi-Fi technology, which makes it less popular on a daily basis. Meanwhile, the owners of cafes, restaurants, cinemas, in an effort to attract as many customers as possible to their establishments, have resorted to various marketing moves, including an open Wi-Fi network.
Is it really that dangerous to use public networks? As a rule, when it comes to a public hotspot, there is no encryption of the connection, unlike the home network, which is predominantly password protected. When using an open Wi-Fi network, there is no protection, which means that you cannot be sure of either the device that distributes the Internet or other devices that also connect to the public network. Accordingly, it is possible to monitor the traffic of this or that user, infecting the device with malware. This can be very dangerous in the face of evolving cyber fraud.
However, this does not mean that there are no means of protection against surveillance. For this, specialized services and programs are intended that must be installed before the first access to the public network.
