Step 1
The control panel of most hosting providers is equipped with a file manager that allows you to upload files to the hosting directly from the page in the browser. To do this, select "File Manager" in the main window of the hosting control panel and follow the link. A window will open in front of you, in which your directories on the hosting will be displayed. Go to the public_html folder and click on the "Download" button. A window for selecting a file to download from your computer will appear on the screen. Select the file that you want to upload to the hosting and click the "Upload" button. In this way, you can download several files without launching additional programs, but with rare exceptions, file managers of hosters do not support downloading directories. It is very inconvenient and time-consuming to download the number of files, the number of which is in the hundreds.
Step 2
You can get out of this situation by first placing directories or a large number of files in archives. Most hosters support packing and unpacking the most common archive formats such as tar, tar.gz, tar.bz2, zip and rar. To do this, create an archive on your computer in one of these formats and upload it to the required directory on the hosting as one file. In the hosting file manager, mark the downloaded file by checking the box next to its name, and click the "Unzip" link in the menu. A window will appear on the screen in which select which folder on the hosting to unpack the archive and click OK. In this way, you can upload the entire packed site engine to the hosting and, by clicking "Unzip", deploy it to the hosting.
Step 3
To easily upload a large number of files, you need to use FTP access. You can connect to the hosting FTP server using special programs - FTP clients or simply using the common file manager - Total Commander. With its help, you can upload a large number of files to hosting without archiving. Having saved the FTP connection settings, you no longer need to enter the hosting control panel every time you want to send new files.
Step 4
To connect to the hosting FTP server, start Total Commander. Click on "FTP" in the main menu and click on "Connect to FTP Server". A window will appear on the screen displaying a list of all available FTP connections. Click the "Add" button and in the window that appears, enter the connection name that will be displayed in the list of connections, then in the appropriate fields the address of the FTP server, login and password for connecting via FTP. If your hoster requires the use of passive mode for FTP exchange, check the corresponding checkbox. Click OK. Double click on the created connection in the list.
Step 5
After connecting, one of the Total Commander windows will open the contents of your directory on the hosting. To upload files, just copy them into this window, just like with a simple copy of files on your computer. By copying files from the FTP connection window, you can upload files from the hosting back to your computer. Similar to the usual operations in Total Commander, you can rename, delete and change the rights of files located on the hosting.
