When you need to connect two computers to the Internet, with only one provider cable available, many simply switch the cable from one PC to another. But not everyone knows that it is possible to provide simultaneous access to the Internet from both devices.
It is necessary
Network hub (switch)
Instructions
Step 1
If you plan to connect only two computers to the Internet, then you just need to purchase a network cable of the required length. If there are more such computers, then it is most reasonable to buy a switch (network hub). Whichever method you choose, the network settings remain unchanged. The only difference will be in the very scheme of building a local network.
Step 2
Select a computer that will share the Internet channel between other PCs or laptops. This PC must have at least two ports for connecting a network cable.
Step 3
If we are talking about a home or small office network, then it is most reasonable to use the most powerful computer for this purpose, which will be turned on most of the time. This is a prerequisite, because by turning off the server computer, you disconnect the Internet connection for all other devices.
Step 4
Connect the ISP cable to one network card, and connect the other to the network hub. To the latter, in turn, connect all other computers or laptops using network cables.
Step 5
Set up an internet connection on the first computer. Go to the properties of this connection, select the "Access" tab and allow the use of this connection to the Internet for all computers on the local network.
Step 6
Open your local network settings. Find the "IP Address" field and enter 192.168.0.1 in it. It is better to use such an address, because it will save you from the problems of accessing the Internet from other PCs.
Step 7
Open local network settings on other computers. Fill in the following fields with the appropriate values:
- IP address: 192.168.0. M, where M is in the range from 2 to 250;
- Leave the subnet mask as standard;
- default gateway: IP address of the first PC.
