Ping is the name of a system command that checks the availability and speed of response to requests from a computer. It is used in local and global networks. Also, this word means the signal delay time on the Internet, the speed of the connection to the network depends on the magnitude of this delay. For example, at high ping values, pages will seem to open very slowly, or in online games your character will respond to keystrokes with a delay.

Instructions

Step 1

Click the "Start" button and select the "Run" menu. Or you can press the key combination Win + R - the same window will open with a prompt to enter the command. Type cmd and click OK. A black and white Windows system console window will appear on the screen. Enter the following text: ping ya.ru. Instead of ya.ru, you can specify any site you are interested in or the ip-address of a computer on the local network.

Step 2

Wait a while, and the screen will display four lines describing the verification session. At the end of the ping command, the average server response time to the request will be displayed, as well as the minimum and maximum time specified in milliseconds. As mentioned above, the less the better. On average, normal ping values are 100-150ms. It depends on your system settings, your internet connection, and your ISP.

Step 3

Another way to measure ping is to use an online check using a website. Open an internet browser and go to https://www.speedtest.net/. After downloading, click on the "Start testing" button and select one of the white points, that is, servers for testing. For a more accurate result, it is worth conducting several checks in a row, choosing different servers each time. Verification takes about a minute. In the upper left part of the window, you will see your ping value and Internet connection parameters.

Step 4

Another tool for checking network latencies is www.pingtest.net/index.php. Follow this link to run a detailed test of your connection. Select one of the servers, the best ones are marked in light green and click the Begin Test inscription. It takes about a minute or two, depending on the connection speed and the selected test host. On the left side of the page, the result will be displayed indicating the percentage of losses, response speed and the so-called "jitter", that is, the instability of the response from the server. As a result, the service will measure the ping and give an estimate in the American system, from A to F, where A is a five, i.e. minimum delay time.
