Competent traffic distribution is an important aspect of working on the Internet. When performing various works in the global network at the same time, this is extremely necessary. In order to divide the traffic, it is necessary to correctly prioritize the download and distribute the speed of the network access channel in such a way as to use it in the most functional way.
Necessary
Computer, Internet access, router
Instructions
Step 1
Provide the fastest web surfing speed. To do this, disable all torrents and download managers, or allocate the minimum part of your traffic to them. To do this, find out the maximum speed, and then set 30% of it for uploading. Check if all updates are downloaded by default. Select only those updates that you need. Pause the downloads of all others so that traffic is not wasted.
Step 2
Displaying images in a browser eats up about 40% of traffic. If you disable this option or set to display pictures of only small resolution, you can save traffic.
Step 3
If you are connected to two providers, then the traffic must be divided between two channels. To do this, install the router and connect an internet cable to it. It is better to invite a specialist for this. When the equipment is installed, it is necessary to route each part of the traffic to its own gateway. For this, each part of the stream is assigned its own gateway, the address of which corresponds to the provider's address.
Step 4
The forwarding mechanism helps to competently divide the traffic. This is a very convenient option. It allows flexible traffic management. Use the ipfw firewall forwarding feature:
# ipfw table 1 add 8x.25y.0.0 / 16
# ipfw add 5000 fwd 10.0.1.1 ip from 192.168.0.0/24 to 'table (1)'
The firewall manages traffic, directing it to channels not only by destination IP address, but also by protocol, source and destination port, and source IP address. This method only works if a NAT server exists in the corresponding direction. Otherwise, the provider will destroy packets on its gateway with IP addresses that do not belong to it. The forwarding mechanism allows you to divide traffic by type. For example, you use one of the channels to receive mail and work with blogs, and in the second, you send all ftp traffic.
