Due to ignorance, novice webmasters often have problems with the creation of various Internet resources, in particular, forums on the IPB platform. But following these simple instructions, even beginners can easily install any Invision Power Board forum.
It is necessary
- - hosting with PHP and MySQL support;
- - FTP client.
Instructions
Step 1
If you already have hosting with mandatory PHP and MySQL support, then proceed to download or purchase the Invision Power Board forum engine, preferably the latest version. After that, go to the admin center of your hosting and create a new MySQL database in it (the hosting interface may be different, but the essence is the same), entering the necessary data: logins, passwords, database name, etc.
Step 2
After creating the database, open any FTP client (Total Commander, for example) and use it to connect to your hosting (all connection information should be on it). After that, open the IPB platform files in the FTP client, find the upload folder and upload its contents to the hosting root directory, but do this only if you want your forum to open immediately, using a direct link. If your forum is an addition to the main site, then rename the upload folder as you wish and upload it to the hosting.
Step 3
After uploading, try following the link https://forum_name/install/index.php or https://your_site/upload/install/index.php (where upload is the folder with the forum content you renamed). If you have errors with CHMOD, remember the names of the files and folders in which the problem occurred, and open the FTP client. Find the necessary objects in it and set the values for them to CHMOD 777 (right-click on the required file and edit its properties).
Step 4
After troubleshooting, go to https://forum_name/install/index.php again and follow the instructions. At this stage, prepare the data entered earlier when creating the MySQL database, and when prompted, enter them in the required forms. In the SQL Host field, enter localhost. After creating a forum, go to its admin center and take care of its security by changing the administrator's name and turning off the display of the forum control center.
