The need to upload a folder with files to the site arises when the administrator of a web resource wants to show visitors a large number of files. These can be photographs, songs, text documents and other various, often heterogeneous, files. You can upload a folder to the site and make it publicly available in two ways.
Instructions
Step 1
The first way is to use an archive. To archive the folder, use the shareware WinRAR program.
Step 2
After installing the archiver on your PC, right-click on the archived folder and select "Add to archive …" from the context menu. In the window that appears, select the compression format (RAR or ZIP) and enter the name of the future archive in Latin letters, and then click the OK button. Once the zip level reaches 100%, an archive with the name you specified will be created in the same directory as the original folder.
Step 3
The resulting archive must be uploaded to the Internet. You can use an FTP connection and upload the archive file directly to your shared hosting. With this, you can create a new directory or upload an archive to the root of the site.
The link to the file will look like this:
site-address.com/directory/archive.zip
Step 4
If the physical volume of the hosting does not allow downloading a large archive via FTP, or there are other restrictions, use a free file sharing service. The best file-sharing networks with the ability to download a file are:
- The people;
- iFolder.
Follow steps 1 and 2 and upload the archive to the file exchange. After uploading the file to the exchanger, you will receive a unique link that must be placed on your site so that any user can download the archive and view the contents of the folder located in it.
Step 5
The second way to upload a folder to a site is to directly copy the folder over an FTP connection. Using Total Commander or another connection manager, create a new FTP connection specifying the site address, FTP login and password, and the server address. Copy the content folder to the site root or to any directory, including a new one. In this case, all links to files will be direct. By uploading the New folder to the root of the site, you will receive the address:
site-address.com/New/
Do not forget to add their extensions to the file names in the links:
site-address.com/New/music.mp3
site-address.com/New/image.jpg
site-address.com/New/text.doc
