The site icon, or favicon, is an important detail that can make your site stand out in the search engine results, or simply give the site its individuality. The browser displays the favicon in the address bar just before the page address.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose a picture for the future pictogram. Ideally, it should be as sketchy as possible, with a minimum of detail (don't forget the tiny size of the icon). In any graphics editor, crop and reduce the image file to 16 x 16 or 32 x 32 pixels.
Step 2
Open one of the online favicon generators - for example, favicon.ru or favicon.cc. Upload your picture to it and download the finished icon. You can also download a generator program to your computer - for example, Icon Magic, Icon Craft, Icon Studio and similar applications. Please note that the newly created file must be named exactly favicon.ico - without any additions, numbers, and so on.
Step 3
Go to your site's dashboard. Go to the root directory of the site. On ucoz sites, the path will look like this: General / Home / File Manager tab. On WordPress sites, the folder you need is called public_html. For "Joomla!" The default CMS directory is the images folder. Whatever platform your site is on, the root directory is the one that stores the favicon.ico and robots.txt files.
Step 4
Replace the favicon.ico file in the root directory with the new one you created. To do this, delete the old file and upload the new one. In some file managers, a file with the same name will automatically replace the old one. Check the icon change by opening your site in a new tab.
Step 5
After replacing the file, browsers will display the new icon. However, if displaying an icon in search engine results is important to you, you can play it safe. To do this, specify the path to the newly created favicon file to the special Yandex robot. In the html-code of the pages of your site, you must write the following code (without spaces) or. This code is written between the and tags.
Step 6
If, after replacing the favicon.ico file, the browser still displays the old icon (usually a pre-installed platform icon), try clearing the browser cache. Or just open the site through another browser.
