Obsidian is the toughest block in Minecraft. Its extraction is dangerous and fraught with a number of difficulties. But if you approach the matter wisely and carefully, these difficulties can be avoided.

Step 1
First of all, you need to know that obsidian can only be mined with a diamond pickaxe. With other tools, you will pick this block for a very long time and even destroy it, but you will not be able to get it. Obsidian is used to create a portal to the Nether, to create durable structures, and simply as a means of expression, as it has an interesting texture.
Step 2
Obsidian occurs when flowing water hits a lava source (a stationary block), and is very rare in the wild. The most popular way to get obsidian is to grow it with water in a lava lake.
Step 3
To do this, first of all, you need to find a lake of lava. They are also found on the surface, but rarely, its greatest concentration can be found at depths between levels 1 and 10.

Therefore, if in the vicinity of the house you did not find a lava lake that came to the surface, then the next time you go to explore the caves, take a couple of buckets of water with you or at least one empty one. At the same time, do not try to carry water into the Lower World, it evaporates there.
Step 5
Of course, quite often, especially in canyons, there are waterfalls and lavafalls in close proximity to each other, but it is more convenient to completely flood a small lake of lava encountered along the way with a couple of buckets of water than fiddling with huge dangerous spaces. Pour the bucket of water as high as possible over the lava lake, so it will flood more cells.
Step 6
After you have created a certain amount of obsidian, proceed to its extraction. To do this, use a diamond pickaxe, it would be nice to enchant it with efficiency to speed up the process. Remember that a pickaxe made of any other material will not work for you, you will only destroy obsidian with it. Don't stand on the block you mine! It is possible that lava is flowing underneath.
Step 7
Be patient, an ordinary unenchanted diamond pickaxe takes one block of obsidian in ten seconds.
