Wi-Fi networks are ubiquitous today and for most people this is the best way to connect to the Internet. Some users can take advantage of one simple loophole to create a workable Wi-FI access point even without a router.

First, it should be said that the user will need either a laptop with a built-in Wi-Fi adapter, or a desktop computer that has a USB adapter for Wi-Fi. It is this device, together with the computer, that will be the Wi-Fi access point. In fact, only these two devices are needed to create an access point, the rest will be done by the software.

basic settings

All actions must be carried out on the host computer, that is, on the PC that will act as an access point. First you need to open the "Start" menu and go to the "Control Panel". In the window that appears, select "Network Connections". Here the user needs to find a shortcut for connecting via "Wireless Network Connection" and right-click on it, and "Enable" in the context menu that appears. After starting, you need to go to the "Properties" of the wireless connection, which also open in this context menu. Then you need to double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP / IP)". The following information is indicated in the settings: IP address - 192.168.0.1, subnet mask - 255.255.255.0. On the second computer, the following are: the IP address is 192.168.0.2, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, and the default gateway is 192.168.0.1. In the field of the default gateway, enter the ip-address of the first computer that is connected to the network via a cable.

The last steps

After the above settings are saved, you need to return to the first computer again. In the properties of the wireless connection, open the "Wireless networks" tab and click on the "Add" button. It is here that the wireless Wi-Fi network will be created. In the window that appears, uncheck the box "The key is provided automatically" and set it to the value "This is a direct computer-to-computer connection." In the "Network Key" field, enter a password with which the user will connect to the wireless network (you can create it yourself). In the drop-down menu "Authentication" select "Shared", and in the type of encryption, select WEP. In the "Connection" tab, put a tick next to the "Connect if the network is within range" item and save all changes. You need to do all the same manipulations on the second computer, after which the user will be able to work on the Internet via Wi-Fi.

The same can be repeated on all computers and laptops that need to be connected to the wireless network.
