The range of data transmission over a WiFi channel depends on many reasons. In some cases, it becomes necessary to transfer data over long distances. This can be done in various ways.

Step 1
Do not under any circumstances increase the transmitter power in the WiFi device over 100 mW (0.1 W) - this method of increasing the communication range is illegal. Also, never use any of the methods described below to connect to networks (even open ones) without the permission of their owners. It is forbidden to connect even to free networks located in cafes, hotels, etc., being outside them, in most countries of the world.
Step 2
Remember that the range of communication between WiFi devices is greatly affected by all kinds of obstacles. An electrically conductive barrier can completely interrupt communication, and a dielectric one can significantly weaken the signal. If it is possible to rearrange, remove unnecessary obstacles from the signal path. If communication is carried out between two offices, between which there are several other offices, take both devices out into the corridor, where there will be nothing between them. When communicating between two buildings located opposite each other, in both of them, place the devices near the windows.
Step 3
Sometimes WiFi standard subscriber equipment is built into a laptop or netbook. In this case, turn it off and purchase an external device instead. Connect it to your computer not directly, but through a special USB extension cable, and then place it in a place where the reception conditions are better.
Step 4
Not all modern WiFi devices are equipped with connectors for connecting an external antenna. But if there is such a nest, be sure to use it. Antenna is not suitable for any, but only specially designed for the frequency range in which WiFi adapters work. You can use, in particular, a homemade antenna like Cantenna.
Step 5
Instead of an antenna, you can use a parabolic reflector, in the focus of which the device itself is placed, connected to the computer with a cable. Even a metal bowl is suitable as a reflector. This design is called WokFi. It is best if antennas or similar reflectors are equipped with adapters on both sides of the communication line.
