GPRS and 3G technologies allow you to access the Internet from a mobile phone, paying not for the time spent on the network, but only for the amount of received and transmitted data. The use of mobile Internet becomes even more profitable when you connect to an unlimited tariff.
Instructions
Step 1
Find out from the manual that came with your phone whether it supports GPRS, EDGE or 3G, and whether it is capable of operating over an Internet access point (APN), not WAP. If at least one of these conditions is not met, change the device to another - not necessarily the most modern, but at least one that meets the specified requirements.
Step 2
If you have recently received a SIM card, you do not need to specifically activate the packet data service, since it is already activated. If you use a card that you received a long time ago, you will have to call the support service and ask to connect it. There is no subscription fee for it.
Step 3
Look for ready-made Internet settings for your operator in the phone's memory. Before going online with these settings, check the value of the "APN" or "Access Point" input field in them. The line must start with "internet", not "wap". Some phones offer two settings for each operator - select the one that meets this criterion.
Step 4
If there are no ready-made settings in the memory of the device, call the support service again. Give not only the name of the manufacturer, but also the model of the device and ask to send a message with the Internet settings (but not WAP - underline this). After receiving the message, open it, then enter the code "1234" first, and if it does not work - "12345". When the settings are saved, check if they meet the criteria specified in the previous step.
Step 5
If none of these methods have succeeded in setting up your phone, enter the settings manually. Fill in the fields as follows: for MTS - internet.mts.ru access point, mts login and password, for Beeline - internet.beeline.ru access point, beeline login and password, for Megafon - internet access point, login and gdata password. Leave the rest of the fields unchanged, with one exception: if there is a field to select the "CSD" and "Batch Data" options, make sure the second is selected.
Step 6
On the regional website of the operator, find out how much the unlimited tariff for data transfer from the phone costs in your area. If the price suits you, find the command on the site to connect it and enter it into the phone. Please note that not only the service itself can be paid, but also its initial activation, so do not disconnect and connect it too often - most likely, it will be more profitable to keep it connected all the time. The service can be connected both immediately and only the next day.
Step 7
After saving the settings, turn off and on the phone. Launch the built-in browser on your phone and try visiting a website. Then exit your browser, call support and ask which access point you just used. If the consultant says that it is intended for the Internet, and not WAP, then everything is in order. Download the Opera Mini and UC browsers right away - they are more convenient than the built-in one. In the application settings, specify the correct access point for them as well.
