Steam is the unwavering dominance of digital distribution. Valve's brainchild mercilessly squeezes other players like Stardock, Origin or GameTap in the corners of the market. One of the convenient features of the Steam service can be considered a server system that has been developing since the time of the first Half-Life.
Instructions
Step 1
Actually, Steam is, by and large, monitoring servers. The load is carried out on the network channel and the computer power of the person who decided to "raise" this server. Throughout its history, Valve has produced several online action movies (and not only action movies), and the connection to the game in them is carried out a little differently. Accordingly, these games can be divided into three blocks according to the type of connection.
Step 2
Server menu. These include games in the Counter Strike, Half-Life and Team Fortress series. Let's analyze this type using Team Fortress 2 as an example. The server menu is a window with several tabs: Internet, History, Favorites, Friends, etc. At the bottom of the window there are several fields, drop-down menus and items that allow you to filter the list of servers by various parameters: by the number of players, game mode, ping, region, server settings, level at which the game is being played, etc.
Step 3
Lobby. This type is supported by Left4Dead and Left4Dead 2. The lobby is a kind of virtual room in which players gather before the start of the next chilling race. There is time to chat a little in voice or text chat, discuss tactics, or just some gossip. When a sufficient number of players are recruited, the lobby creator launches the game, and Steam selects the game server.
Step 4
As easy as pie. Only Portal 2 is currently listed in this group. Only two players can take part in a multiplayer game, so manipulation with the connection is minimized. In the main menu, click on the "Co-op game" item, after which a list of people with whom you managed to make friends in the Steam system will open. Now you can invite some of them to the game. In addition, there is an opportunity to play with a random passenger (the button "Find a partner in the network" at the bottom), but the system will warn you that Portal 2 is best for playing together with friends.
