Before buying a domain name, you need to check if it is already in use. You should also check who other similarly spelled domain names are doing so that you don't accidentally infringe someone's exclusive trademark right.
Instructions
Step 1
Check if the domain name is taken. To do this, enter it into the address bar of the browser on any computer or phone connected to the Internet. If the owner of the domain has a server on it that is accessible via the HTTP protocol, then the site will soon load, and you will find out what its subject is, as well as who owns it (if it has the relevant information). If the web server is missing or unavailable, after a while you will see an error message on the screen.
Step 2
The above method gives inaccurate results if the domain name is busy, but the server is currently offline (for example, for maintenance purposes), or there is no connection with it. For a more accurate determination of domain free use, install the whois program on your computer. If you use Linux, chances are good that you already have this program. Enter the whois command at the command line, followed by the domain name you are interested in, separated by a space. If it is busy, you will receive information about its owner.
Step 3
The whois program accesses the database server on a port that may be blocked by some ISPs. In addition, it has only been ported to desktop operating systems such as Linux and Windows. There is no phone version of this utility. To overcome this limitation, use the site accessible from the first link. Enter the domain name that you are interested in being occupied in the field, and then press the Enter key or the Go bezel button. The text that you see on the screen will be identical to what the whois utility would output to the console in this case.
Step 4
If you wish, find out which hosting provider the domain owner uses. To do this, follow the second link. Enter your domain name and click the "Find out" button. Please note that information obtained in this way may be inaccurate.
