The need to connect the Qip program through a proxy server may arise for various reasons. Most often, this reason is the closure of access to the Internet for such programs from the workplace of an office employee. Administrators of computer office networks prohibit connecting to certain ip-addresses, including the Qip program, since it uses the same ip-addresses as the Icq program on the basis of which it was created.

Instructions

Step 1

Open the Qip program window. There is an icon with a wrench symbol at the top of the window. Click on it. The "Settings" window will open. On the left in the "Settings" window, there is a list of configurable sections. You will need to click on the "Connection" section.

Step 2

In the "Connection" section, there are three types of connection: "Direct Internet connection", "Automatic detection of proxy settings" and "Set proxy settings manually". You need to select the connection type "Set proxy settings manually".

Step 3

Before filling in the "Type", "Address" and "Port" fields, you need to find out the type of connection to the proxy server, its ip-address and connection port. This can be done simply by searching the Internet for free proxy servers. Having found one, you will find out the type of connection, and the ip-address, and the connection port. As a rule, the ip-address looks like ***. ***. ***. **, where numbers are used instead of asterisks. The port looks like just four digits like ****.

Step 4

Copy the numbers of the ip-address, and then the port, and paste it into the corresponding field in the Qip program settings. The connection type can be selected from the drop-down list of program settings. If the type of connection to the proxy is not specified, then you can try various options from the drop-down list.

Step 5

If you log into the proxy server using your login and password, you will have to copy them and then paste them into the appropriate fields located below in the settings window.

Step 6

To activate these fields, check the box next to the word "Authentication (optional)". Below there is one more field "NTLM authentication", but this method of connecting to a proxy server is rarely used, and, accordingly, this field should be checked only if it is specifically indicated in the proxy settings.

Step 7

When all the required fields are filled in, click on the "Apply" button and close the settings window. Restart the Qip program.
