The Internet has long been firmly established in the lives of modern people, and for some of them it is the only way to express themselves and find friends or a good way to earn money. Nevertheless, no matter how funny it may seem, few people will be able to immediately answer the question "what is the Internet?" As a rule, the obvious answer will be the "world wide web", but decoding of this concept is, in the literal sense, a matter of technology.

The Internet is a gigantic information system that has conquered the whole world. Despite the fact that it was born relatively recently, in 1973, today it is difficult to imagine life without a network. Thanks to the creation of the Internet, each person with the help of a computer can join a huge and almost inexhaustible storehouse of information, find an answer to any question of interest, make friends and even earn money.

The Internet has entangled the planet like a spider's web, and it is this term that gave the official name to the Internet - the World Wide Web (World Wide Web). The first letters of these words precede the email addresses that users type in their browsers. By the way, some people mistakenly call the browser the Internet, but it is just a program that makes the complex information structure of the web accessible to human perception.

The Internet is a collection of computer networks with a single address space. Information is stored on special computers - servers, which also provide personal computers with access to the Internet. Servers can be used for different purposes: web servers, mail servers, FTP for file exchange, chats and broadcast systems (radio, television).

Each computer has its own identification number (IP) on the network, each site has its own address. Computers are connected to the network through different channels: telephone cable, satellite communications, etc. Internet connection is provided by the provider with whom the user enters into an agreement.

Despite the difference in connection methods, there is only one communication technology - this is the TCP / IP (Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol) family of protocols. Protocol is the rule by which a computer communicates with a server. In the family of protocols, the most popular protocol is HTTP, which is responsible for working with text. Any page on the Internet contains text, so HTTP is used when working with any site. Equally important are the POP and SMTP protocols, which are responsible for receiving and sending e-mails, and FTP for transferring and receiving files.

The most important criterion of the Internet for any user is the speed of information transfer. Technological progress follows leaps and bounds, and every day working with the network becomes more and more accessible. The number of sites is growing exponentially, there are more and more opportunities for the implementation of almost all types of human activity.

The Internet is communication, entertainment, education, trade and earnings. Communication over the network allows you to contact any user anywhere in the world. A huge range of entertainment will not let anyone get bored: these are films, music, photographs, and personal videos that can be sent to friends and acquaintances or posted on your website.

Many educational institutions have opened new horizons for their students through online learning. Modern technologies make it possible to train those who, physically or for other reasons, cannot be present in the classroom. And if at the very beginning of the emergence of distance education it was not taken seriously by everyone, now it is an officially operating system for training new personnel, which gives professional knowledge.

Online stores carry out their trade in collaboration with electronic payment systems and succeed, because there are much more opportunities for advertising on the network. Technical means allow you to place an order at any time of the day or night, and, without leaving your home, receive your purchase.

Online earnings are gaining momentum, expanding opportunities every day. Freelancers work around the clock, and at any time a potential customer can get a finished job without delays and problems. There are no office hours or lunch breaks.
