Initially, computers were created to automate complex calculations and calculations, but with the development of technology, it became clear that in addition to this, computers can be played. There are many different games. Among such an impressive assortment, there are several products installed by almost all players.
New computer games are released almost daily. Some of them are the result of long and painstaking work of many employees of the game studio, while others are created by just one person, but this does not prevent them from gaining popularity. However, the capabilities of a professional team are immeasurably higher than that of a single enthusiast, which is why most of the truly popular games are developed by well-known studios.
The first computer game in the world was called Computer Space. It was released in 1971, but did not bring commercial benefits to its creators.
Leaders of sells
These games, in particular, include Starcraft 2 - the sequel to the world's most popular strategy game from Blizzard. Starcraft, which appeared back in 1998, turned out to be a revolutionary game that re-shaped the view of computer strategy: it had an amazing storyline, an almost perfect balance of three completely dissimilar races, a lot of original tactics and possibilities. All this was done against the background of the magnificent graphics at that time. Unsurprisingly, Starcraft has become a top seller as well as one of the main disciplines in esports competitions around the world.
Fans of the game were eagerly awaiting the release of the second part of the legendary strategy, and in 2010 their hopes came true in full. Modern graphics, full-fledged online play, new units and strategic decisions have been added to the "corporate" balance and plot. In just the first month after the release, three million copies of the game were sold.
In the United States of America, since 2011, computer games are officially considered an art form, and their authors can count on grants from the state.
No less popular is the RPG game from Bethesda, which is the fifth part of the famous The Elder Scrolls - Skyrim. A huge world full of dangers, many options for leveling the character, different ways of passing the main plot line and side branches, and, of course, great graphics - make Skyrim not just another role-playing game about knights and dragons, but an unsurpassed role model. Despite the fact that the game was released in 2011, its popularity is still growing, especially since the publisher regularly releases updates and additions, allowing even experienced players who know every corner of the Skyrim world to find new adventures. The number of copies of the game sold is over 20 million.
The aforementioned games were produced by professionals with solid development experience, fame, and a "hyped" name. In contrast, World of Tanks became the debut project for the Belarusian Wargaming studio. However, this did not prevent World of Tanks from quickly becoming the most popular game in the former USSR and one of the most popular in the rest of the world. At first glance, it is not clear what exactly the incredible appeal of the "World of Tanks" is. However, the game quickly attracted not only avid gamers, but also many people who were never interested in computer games. Perhaps the whole point is in the low "entry threshold" (to start playing, you do not need to have a particularly quick reaction or learn the intricacies of game mechanics), or perhaps - in a fundamentally new format of tank battles, with real people acting as allies and opponents here. One way or another, in 2014 only on Russian servers the number of players simultaneously playing exceeded a million people, and the game itself was entered in the Guinness Book of Records as the record holder for the number of players on one server.
