When working with a PC, there are times when several applications are installed on your system, for which a com port is required. However, the number of these ports is far from always equal to the number of such applications. Therefore, with a shortage of these devices, the OS provides for the creation of virtual ones, the number of which is not limited.

Step 1
There are several ways to create a virtual com-port, the number of these methods is equal to the number of programs that allow such manipulations on a PC. One such application is the Advanced Virtual COM Port. You can download it from the link provided in the "Additional Sources" category. Install the program and run. Examine the utility interface carefully and find the "Create Port" button. In the window that opens, select the source of the port that you are going to create. Go through the "Start" menu to the "Control Panel". Select the Device Manager icon and check the com ports section.
Step 2
There is also another way to create a virtual port. It is based on driver installation. To get started, download it from the following link called "Com Port Driver". Unpack the downloaded archive to any folder. Then connect the USB side of the cable to the computer (leave the other end of the cable, where the two DB-9s are located, unconnected). Select "Search for a suitable driver for my device." Specify the location of the driver. Then click "Browse", select a driver, and click on the "Finish" button. Restart your computer and check Device Manager.
Step 3
You can also create a virtual com port using the Virtual Null Mode network utility. You can download it by finding the appropriate name in the "Additional Sources" category. Install the program. After installation, when asked about creating a new device, answer “Yes”. Specify the required port numbers and confirm the changes with the "OK" button. At this stage, the creation of the com port is completed. Restart your computer, go through the Start menu to Control Panel and check Device Manager. Also, do not forget that virtual ports are almost indistinguishable from real ones, they look and function like their real counterparts.
