The era of slow modem Internet is long gone, but the problem of insufficient bandwidth is still relevant. The actual connection speed is often significantly lower than that specified in the contract with the provider.

Instructions

Step 1

Establish an Internet connection. If you are using a wireless connection, make sure the signal strength is maximum. Your device must be in the same room as the wireless access point. There should be no foreign objects between the signal source and the receiver, but do not move them close - this will degrade the signal quality. All these preparations are necessary because in conditions of strong radio frequency noise, poorly permeable obstacles (walls, interfloor ceilings, furniture, etc.), the quality of the radio signal deteriorates significantly.

Step 2

Scan your computer with an antivirus program. It is better to use the one-time anti-virus utility DrWeb CureIt, which is free for home use. Download the utility from the site and run it immediately. Wait for the end of the express check. It is advisable to run a full scan after its completion. Antivirus scanning is necessary because the computer can be infected with malware, with the help of which cybercriminals use the resources of the computer, including the Internet access channel. This can lead to a decrease in the measured connection speed, and unreasonable claims to the provider.

Step 3

Disable all peer-to-peer clients installed on the computer. They can be uTorrent, eMule, MediaGet, StrongDC ++ and others. Also, do not forget to turn off programs for downloading files via FTP, such as Download Manager. Close the mail client and all instant messengers. Make sure that the computer is not downloading anything from servers on the local network. Close all extended folders and all browser tabs.

Step 4

Go to speedtest.net. Select the nearest communication site and start testing. First, the ping will be checked - the time it takes for a packet from the computer to reach the test server. If the ping is more than 100 milliseconds, it can cause lags and freezes in online games. If the ping is more than a second, normal internet use is almost impossible.

Step 5

Next, the speed of obtaining will be measured. This is the speed at which files are downloaded from the test server. The value must match the declared provider. At the end, a baud rate test will be performed. This value is not regulated in the contract, but it is desirable that it be at least one megabit. If the values are low, try repeating the test with other test servers.
