The overwhelming majority of sites can be accessed by entering a convenient domain name into the browser line, and not the corresponding ip-address. This opportunity exists thanks to DNS servers (from the English Domain Name System), which store the necessary information.

What is a DNS address? In fact, it is synonymous with the concept of "domain name". If you know the domain, then you also know the DNS address. Each domain name has a corresponding ip. When you enter a domain name in your browser, it is the DNS service that looks up the corresponding ip. Information relating to domain names and ip-addresses is located on DNS servers.

There is also the concept of a DNS server name. Such names are indicated when registering a domain to link it to hosting. The need to find out the domain name, ip-address or the name of the DNS server can arise in different situations, so the user must know how to find the information he needs.

If you know the domain name and want to find out the name of the DNS server, use any whois service - for example, IP ping.ru. Enter the domain name of the resource in the field and click the "Request" button. The information displayed will contain the information you need. For example, try getting information about the Rambler service. Enter rambler.ru in the search field (this is the DNS address), the list that appears will also contain DNS names - for example, nserver: ns2.rambler.ru 81.19.66.61.
Step 4
Sometimes it becomes necessary to determine the provider's DNS server. To do this, open the command line (console): "Start" - "All programs" - "Accessories" - "Command line" or click "Run" and enter the command cmd. In the command prompt window that opens, enter the command ipconfig / all and press Enter. In the list that appears, in the line "DNS servers", you will find the addresses you need.

In the event that you need to find out the ip-address of the site, you can use the ping command. This is the easiest way. For example, you want to determine the address of the Rambler service. To do this, enter the ping rambler.ru command in the console and do not forget to press Enter. The exchange of packages will begin, in the first line you will see the resource ip-address: 81.19.70.3. If you need to copy it, right-click the line with the address in the console and select "Change" from the context menu. After that, select the required address in the line with the mouse and press Enter. The selected part of the line is copied to the clipboard.
