Every webmaster has to deal with the need to count pages from time to time both on their own sites and on the sites of competitors. Of course, search engines that index sites allow you to get some information about the number of pages in a resource. But the problem is that they do not index all pages, but only those that match the conditions of their algorithms. Therefore, the number of real pages on the site and the number of pages in the PS index can differ significantly.

Step 1
In order to accurately calculate the number of pages of an Internet resource, the easiest way is to use an automatically generated sitemap (Sitemap). If your site is relatively small, you can use a special online service for generating sitemaps and page counting XML-Sitemaps.com
Step 2
To do this, go to the specified resource, which by default always opens on the “Free Online Sitemap Generator” tab, that is, a free online service. Enter the URL (Internet address) of your site in the blank field and click the "Start" button. After a while, the service will generate your sitemap.
Step 3
After completing the service, you will be redirected to a page displaying the details of the sitemap. In it you will find information about the number of pages on the site, broken link, the content of the XML file and the link to the file with the sitemap. Use this link to upload a sitemap to the root directory of your site.
Step 4
Unfortunately, this service is shareware and is designed for sites containing no more than 500 pages. If you want to handle larger sites with it, you will have to register and get personal paid access to the service. The cost of the program is $ 19.99. If you decide to purchase a paid version, go to the second tab of the site “Unlimited Sitemap Generator”. On this page you will find detailed instructions in English with a description of the service's capabilities and rules for its use, as well as a button for the payment procedure using the PayPal system.
Step 5
If you create your sites using common CMS (site management systems), you can use the plugins developed for them when creating a sitemap and counting the number of pages. In particular, for the common cms Joomla, there is an excellent SEF Service Map module that allows you to generate sitemaps and work with them. The Word Press system has a special plug-in for generating a sitemap, which will need to be additionally installed.
