Office suite OpenOffice.org, like other software for a similar purpose, allows automatic page numbering. This numbering will then be visible both when viewing the document on the screen and when printing it.

Instructions

Step 1

Type and save the text in the OpenOffice.org package, or open a finished document in it.

Step 2

Depending on where you want to place the page numbers (at the top or bottom of the page), choose Header or Footer from the View menu. In the submenu that appears, select "Normal".

Step 3

Headers and footers (headers or footers, depending on your choice) will appear on all pages of the document. Move your cursor to the header and footer area on any of the pages. Click the left alignment button, middle alignment button, or right alignment button, depending on which side of the sheet you want to position the page numbers on.

Step 4

Select the following items in the menu: "Insert", "Fields", "Page number". Numbers will appear on all pages of the document. Select any of them and choose a font for it, its size, style (bold, italic, underlined), if desired, apply various effects. Anything you do with the number of any of the pages will automatically be reflected on the rest.

Step 5

In some documents, it is customary not to put the page number on the cover. The page following the cover should still be numbered 2. To achieve this, move the cursor to the header and footer field of the first page and select the menu items: "Format", "Styles", "Catalog". A window will appear in which in the upper drop-down menu, select the "Page Styles" item. In the list that appears, select the "First page" item and click the "OK" button. On the first page of the document, the header and footer will disappear, and on the rest of the page numbering will continue, starting from 2.

Step 6

Save your document and print if necessary. Please note that if the same document is then opened not in OpenOffice.org, but in another software package (Google Docs, Microsoft Office, etc.), the distribution of text on pages, their number and numbering may not match. This likelihood is greatly reduced when using the latest versions of OpenOffice.org.
