ICQ is one of the leading online chat apps. It combines the functions of instant messaging, SMS, video and voice communication. Despite its powerful functionality, ICQ has an intuitive and easy-to-use interface, making digital communications of all kinds easy for beginners and advanced users. Registering a profile in the app is free and takes only a few minutes.
Instructions
Step 1
There are several different instant messaging clients. These include QIP, Miranda and other applications. You can use any of them as an alternative, using the UIN registered in the ICQ to login. ICQ also allows you to create a mailbox for free that has easy integration with the application itself.
Step 2
Go to the official ICQ page and find a bright green button that says "Download ICQ6". Click on it. Select the language in which you prefer to use the program. The default is English, but you can choose from dozens of other options, including Russian.
Step 3
Click on the "Download" button on the language selection page. This will take you to the Download ICQ link. Click on it, select "Run" when prompted to run or save the setup file to your hard drive. If you are using a dial-up connection, then selecting “Save” may be the most appropriate option.
Step 4
Follow the instructions in the wizard to install ICQ on your computer. If you do not want the application to use its official site as the home page of the web browser, then select the "custom" installation option and uncheck the corresponding checkbox.
Step 5
Wait for the application to open and click on the "Register" button. Enter the desired nickname and check if it is occupied by another user. Enter your password and mailbox. Next, you will be asked to choose an avatar and complete the registration, confirming it in the letter that came to the specified mailbox. Do this and return to the program login window.
Step 6
Enter your username and password, and then wait for the application to load. At the top of the window that opens, you will see a number consisting of several digits. This is the registered UIN, which can also be used as a login to enter the program.
