The ability to make your files private, not accessible to outsiders is very important for many computer users. There are several ways to protect important information from unwanted eyes.

Step 1
First, the files you want to restrict access to can be hidden. Then, in the case of appropriate settings, an unauthorized user will not be able to see them.
In order to make a file hidden, you need to click on the file icon with the right mouse button, in the drop-down menu select the "Properties" category. In the window that appears, find the "Hidden" item and put a tick in front of it. Then click the "Apply" button. Your file will become hidden.
Step 2
Your file may still be visible in the My Computer menu. In this case, select the "Service" item in the top menu bar, in the drop-down list select the "Folder Options" category. A window of the same name will open, in which you need to open the "View" tab and then in the "Hidden files and folders" category, select the "Do not show hidden files and folders" item, and then click the "Apply" button. The next item "Show hidden files and folders" will give you the opportunity to see your file if you want to refer to it.
In the same way, you can hide the entire folder containing the file you want to restrict access to.
Step 3
Some programs, notably Microsoft Office, let you restrict file access permissions by publishing a license. This rather complex mechanism requires the installation of the Windows Rights Management Client.
