It is difficult to imagine a modern computer without an Internet connection, but the procedure for setting up a network in an operating system still causes some difficulties. In Window Vista, there is a settings section in the control panel for creating a network connection.
Instructions
Step 1
Configuring and managing network connections in Windows Vista is very different from the implementation in earlier versions of this operating system. The main configuration tool here is the Network and Sharing Center.
Step 2
Open the "Control Center". This can be done in two ways: "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Network and Internet", section "Control Center …", as well as "Start" -> "Network", the menu button at the top of the screen "Control Center … ".
Step 3
The appearance of the "Network Sharing Center" is a visual panel. On the left is the center menu, which presents the main sections of Internet settings, the so-called tasks.
Step 4
In the "View Computers and Devices" section, you can see all computers and network devices. In Windows Vista, new devices are added here automatically. In the "Connect to the network" section, you can connect / disconnect to the already existing configured networks.
Step 5
To set up a new Internet connection, go to the "Setting up a network connection" section. Vista offers several configuration options, at least four: Internet connection (high-speed, wireless or telephone), Configuring routers and access points, Telephone connection, and Connecting to a workplace in a work network.
Step 6
Select "Connect to the Internet", click "Connect". With this action, you will launch the Installation Wizard, which, in fact, will do all the work. The only data that you will need to enter manually is the login and password provided by the provider, as well as the phone number (for connecting via a modem) or the name of the server (for connecting via VPN) or other information.
Step 7
Additional manual manipulations may be required if the connection is to a local local network. In this case, you need to know the IP address of your computer, the DNS (domain name server) address, the subnet mask, and the network gateway address. All these data, as a rule, are indicated either on the provider's website, or are spelled out in your contract with him. Enter this information on the General tab of the Internet Protocol TCP / IP in the Network section.
Step 8
To connect to the Internet automatically when you start Windows Vista and restore itself when the connection is broken, go to the properties of the created connection. To do this, open the "Network Control Center …" "Manage network connections" section and right-click on the Internet connection icon, select "Properties".
Step 9
Open the "Options" tab, check the "Call back on disconnection" checkbox. Change the "Callback Options" if necessary.
