Internet access today can be found in almost all variations. This can be from a mobile phone, smartphone, tablet or PDA, but the most common option is a desktop PC. Often Windows XP is installed on it, and setting up an Internet connection does not cause any special difficulties, however, with the advent of Windows Vista, some features have appeared when creating a connection that is useful for every user to know.
Instructions
Step 1
To get started, open "Start" and go to the "Control Panel" section. In this section there is a subsection "Network and Internet", which must be opened. Then press the button "View the status of the network and tasks". You will open the "Network and Sharing Center", click on the line that says "Manage network connections." In the window that appears, right-click on the "Local Area Connection" object and select "Properties" (this is the last inscription). Next, click on the line "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" and go to the properties of this object. In the properties window, in the place where the inscription "Internet Protocol (TCP / IP)" is present, check the box. Activate the "Obtain an IP address automatically" checkbox and click the OK button to save the applied settings. Then test the created connection.
Step 2
If you are using a telephone line connection, you should have been given instructions with the required Internet addresses when installing cables and setting up your computer. In this case, as in the first option, open "Start" and go to the "Control Panel" section. After that, go to the "Network and Internet" section and click "View network status and tasks". In the Network Control Center, click on "Manage Network Connections". Next, go to the properties of the "Local Area Connection" object using the right mouse click. Find the line "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)" and go to the additional setting of this item.
Step 3
Check the box next to "Use the following IP address" and fill in the lines "IP address", "Subnet mask", "Default gateway". Also, do not forget about the lower fields: "Preferred DNS Server" and "Alternate DNS Server". Take information from your provider's documents. Then complete the setup by clicking OK.
