Modern technologies make it possible to distribute the Internet to several computers at once, connecting to only one provider and not entangling the entire room with wires. This can be done using a router. However, in order for your Internet connection to remain fast and secure, you need to password protect the access point.
Instructions
Step 1
Most routers have a password protection feature. Configure this feature at the same time as configuring your router to prevent intruders from using your internet.
Step 2
In order to create an access point with the ability to connect to the Internet, follow the instructions. Connect two wires to the router - one from the connected Internet (it will remain in the router after the settings are completed), and the second should connect it to the computer via the LAN port. To do this, use a twisted pair cable, which usually comes with a router.
Step 3
Before you start configuring the router, save it to a separate file or write down the settings for direct connection of your computer to the Internet. To do this, find the Internet connection icon (located in the lower right corner and looks like two connected computers or a ladder showing the signal strength) and click on it. In the pop-up window, find at the very bottom the "Network and Sharing Center" tab.
Step 4
Click on this tab - a window will open in front of you, reflecting all the connections connected on your computer. In the left part of the window, find the "Change adapter settings" menu item, click on it. In the new window, find your internet connection icon and open the pop-up menu by right-clicking. Select the Properties tab and then Protocol Version 4. Rewrite all the data from this window - they will be needed to connect the router directly.
Step 5
Open your browser and enter the ip of the router directly into the address bar. Enter the factory login and password (they must be indicated in the documents of the router or in the agreement with the Internet provider). Find the Internet Setup tab. Here you will have to enter the settings data that you wrote out.
Step 6
Find the Security Settings tab. Give your hotspot a name and create a password for it. A little below the "Network Security Settings" tab will be located, where you must also write the name and password for the access point, and also select the type of data encryption (WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK is recommended) so that those who want to connect could not find the password. Remember that it is better to use both numeric and alphabetic data in the password, only at least 6-8 characters.
Step 7
Now that your computer finds the connection you want, click on it. Enter the password in the window that opens. The Internet will be available only to you and to the one to whom you deem it necessary to provide the password.
