Instructions

Step 1

The need to change the access point may arise if, for example, you use a USB modem and move to another region where the cellular operator uses different settings. Start configuring the modem by finding out the exact spelling of the access point, this information is usually available on the provider's website. You can find it out in any office of your mobile operator or by calling the free technical support phone.

Step 2

Insert the USB modem into the computer connector. After the OS detects the modem, the automatic installation of the Internet connection program stored in its memory will begin. You will be prompted to select a language, a folder for installing the program, etc. Usually all of these settings are made by default. If the program is already installed, it will start when the modem is connected.

Step 3

The specific program options may differ for different modems and providers, but the general procedure for configuring the access point is the same for everyone. After launching the program, find the "Profile Management" tab, it can be located in the "Settings" - "Options" menu. Look for APN on the opened tab, this is the access point. Enter the desired value in its field - for example, internet (for Megafon), internet.mts.ru (MTS), internet.beeline.ru (Beeline), etc.

Step 4

In the authentication field, enter the phone number of the provider you are connecting to. For Megafon and MTS it is * 99 #, for Beeline * 99 *** 1 #. The user usually does not have to enter a username and password, the communication program sets them automatically. However, in some cases it may be necessary to enter them manually. Megafon's password and login are gdata, MTS has mts, and Beeline has beeline. Please be aware that this data may vary from region to region.

Step 5

After entering all the required data, save the changes and try to establish a connection. If everything was done correctly, your computer will connect to the internet. Do not forget to open the connection properties and check the box "When connecting, display the icon in the notification area" - then the connection icon will appear in the tray.
