A Wi-Fi router, or router, is a network device that acts as a gateway between computers and a high-speed modem. A Wi-Fi router is also a wireless access point to the Internet. To configure this device, you need to establish a connection with a modem and a computer.
It is necessary
- - a computer;
- - high speed modem;
- - Wi-Fi router;
- - 2 Ethernet cables.
Instructions
Step 1
Disconnect the modem from the power supply and connect it to the router using an Ethernet cable. When doing this, use the Internet or Modem port on the back of the router, it is usually located next to the power port and is highlighted with a color or label. Remove the cable between the modem and the computer if it was installed earlier.
Step 2
Turn off your computer. Take another Ethernet cable. Connect one end of it to the network connector on the back of the computer system unit. Plug the other end of the cable into one of the numbered ports on your router. Which port you choose does not matter.
Step 3
Connect the modem to the power supply and turn it on, wait for the modem to establish a connection with the server of your Internet provider, it may take 1-2 minutes. Successful connection will be indicated by indicators on the front panel of the device. Connect the router to the power supply and turn it on, wait for the router to establish a connection with the modem, the successful connection is signaled by the lights on the front panel of the router. Now turn on your computer. Connect the devices in that order, otherwise the Internet connection may not work.
Step 4
Open an internet browser and enter the address of the router in its address bar. The IP address of the router can be found in the documentation for the device or on the manufacturer's official website. As a result, you will be taken to the router settings page. To access the settings themselves, you will need to enter your username and password. Most often, the word admin is used as a login, and the word password is used as a password. The password field can also be left blank. For the exact information on login and password, see the documentation for the device.
Step 5
On the settings page, you can change the name of the wireless network - SSID, the type of encryption to protect the network, and also set a password for accessing the wireless network. After making the necessary settings, click the Apply or Save button.
Step 6
If a disc is included with the router, install the programs that are on it, they will simplify the device setup. Try to install the router closer to the center of the room, as far as possible from the walls, so the signal from it will be the most stable.
