The primary goal of creating an msi package is to significantly ease the task of installing applications on multiple computers. Installing such a software package saves the user from having to change settings and significantly saves time.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare a "clean" PC for work, which is necessary for the correct creation of the msi-package. Such a computer should not have any software installed; only the operating system, as well as important service packs for it, should be installed on the cleaned hard disk.
Step 2
Take a snapshot of the original state of your operating system using Discover. Its function is to collect information and create a special list, which includes a list of files on a "clean" computer, as well as system registry data. The Discover tool is part of the WinInstall software package and can be launched using the Run command on the start menu.
Step 3
Install on a "clean" PC the program that you want to include in the msi package. Make the necessary changes to the settings for this application, which will be automatically applied when installing the msi package on other computers. After completing the configuration, you must reboot the clean PC to capture the updated registry data, although this procedure is optional.
Step 4
After rebooting, run Discover again. It will take a second "snapshot" of the system, determining all the changes that have occurred after the installation of the application included in the msi-package, added files and system registry parameters on a "clean" PC. Based on the identified changes, the Discover program creates an msi package on the hard disk, which also includes instructions to make it easier to install the msi package on other computers in the future.
