Most serious software products create a special debug file (error log) when internal errors occur. It usually contains the necessary information to fix the bug (flaw) that has appeared.

Instructions

Step 1

Some software systems constantly keep log files, so this document can contain tens of thousands of characters. As a rule, users inform the developers about the bugs that have occurred so that the latter make changes to the program code. But copying the entire log into the body of an email is simply pointless - it might be too large. Therefore, it is enough to cut only a part for sending.

Step 2

Log files can be opened with any text editor such as Notepad or WordPad. Open the program directory, then the folder containing the log. In some cases, these files have the Hidden attribute, so one procedure should be followed. Click the top menu "Tools" and select "Folder Options". Go to the "View" tab and uncheck the "Hide system files" option.

Step 3

Right-click on the file, select the "Open With" section and left-click on the line of any text editor. If there is no suitable application in this list, click "Select Application". In the window that opens, you will see an expanded list of installed programs. But it also happens that this list also does not find the program you need. Click the Browse button and locate the text file editor executable. Click the "OK" button.

Step 4

In the text editor window, you need to copy the desired piece of text. As a rule, these are the last lines (pages) of the log or a certain part of the document. To search for the desired phrase, just use the tool of the same name. To open the search box, press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F. In the blank field, enter your phrase and press Enter.

Step 5

You can copy the desired fragment using the left mouse button pressed or the text selection function keys (Ctrl, Shift, navigation arrows). Copy the selected piece of text and paste it into the send mail window. In extreme cases, log files can be sent by email. To do this, go to the mail window and click the "Attach" button.
