Ports for uTorrent are used as entry points for streaming download of a file from a torrent tracker. However, sometimes the standard Windows firewall blocks the ports required for the program to run, making it difficult to download files. To change this limitation, you must use the appropriate functions of the operating system.
Instructions
Step 1
Open uTorrent and see the status of the current network connection. To do this, move the mouse cursor to the lower right corner of the program window. If the connection icon is green, then Windows Firewall is not blocking incoming connections and the program is functioning correctly. If the icon is yellow or red, then there are some problems with the connection to the servers.
Step 2
Click on this connection status icon with the left mouse button. In the window that appears, you will see the connection status and the amount of data transferred. At the bottom of the menu that appears, you will see the address of the port being used. Click on the Test Port button to make sure it is being blocked by Windows Firewall.
Step 3
After clicking on the button, a browser will open. If you see the message "Error! Port N does not appear to be open", then the port is indeed blocked. Click on the "Start" button of the system and in the search bar enter the query "Firewall". Among the results that appear, select the appropriate one, and then click "Allow the program to start".
Step 4
In the list of applications installed on your computer that appears, find two lines: uTorrent (TCP-In) and uTorrent (UDP-In). Check the box next to each of these items and click the "OK" button. If uTorrent is not listed, click the "Allow another program" button at the bottom right of the window that appears. In the list that appears, select uTorrent and configure the required settings.
Step 5
Restart uTorrent using File - Exit, and then launching the program using the shortcut on your desktop. Click on the connection status icon again. If the ports have been successfully unblocked, you will see a green icon. You can also run the test again to make sure the settings you made have been activated. UTorrent port opening completed.
