In July 2012, the YouTube service provided users with the ability to preserve the visual anonymity of people whose faces are present in clips uploaded to video hosting. For this purpose, the option of blurring faces has been added to the number of tools for basic editing of videos.
A face blur option is available among the advanced video editing options. To take advantage of this opportunity, you will need to open the YouTube page in the browser tab and enter your username and password in the text fields of the login form. In the upper right part of the window, there is a button with the user's name and picture. Clicking on it will open a list in which you will need to select the "Video Manager" item. The window that opens will give you the opportunity to see all the loaded clips and select the one on which you want to blur the faces.
To switch to the editor mode, you can use the "Improve video" option, available through the menu, which opens by clicking on the arrow button located to the right of the preview of the selected video. The desired option for blurring faces will be available after clicking on the "More options" button in the lower left part of the window. As of July 2012, the list of additional editing options for clips on YouTube consists of one option, "Blur all faces" without settings, but with a description of the capabilities of the new tool and instructions on how to use it. If necessary, you can view the full text of the description by clicking on the "Details" link. To start processing the video, just click on the "Apply" button.
YouTube's new editor tool automatically detects faces in a clip and replaces them with blurred areas. The result of processing largely depends on the original video: the faces of people who find themselves sideways to the camera can avoid blur. The result of the tool's work is also influenced by the degree of illumination of the scene. To save the result, you will need to click on the "Save As" button located in the upper right corner of the window. By default, the original clip will be removed from Youtube. To avoid this, just uncheck the "Delete original video" checkbox. This opportunity appears after the start of clip processing.
