Everyone is annoyed by pop-ups on the Internet, blinking messages that guarantee that you have "won" free electronic devices or even millions of dollars. Many of them are directed to fraudulent websites that can be infected with viruses. Fortunately, there are special plugins that allow you to block these threats in your browser.
Instructions
Step 1
Determine which internet browser you are using. The most popular are Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. Find out which version of the application you have, such as Firefox 3.0 or Internet Explorer 8. It is best to update your browser to the latest version, as this will almost guarantee full compatibility with toolbars and plugins that block pop-ups and messages.
Step 2
Select the downloadable toolbars or plugins that work with your browser. For example, Google's Toolbar is a free utility that also works with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. It allows you to block pop-up messages, while also offering a handy Google PageRank tool for users to add dangerous sites to the database. Alternatively, you can try an independent and free software for Mozilla Firefox called STOPzilla, which is also supported by other browsers. This simple and easy-to-use plugin effectively blocks all unbeknownst pop-up pages and messages, warning you of possible threats.
Step 3
Download and install a toolbar or other required software. The process is very simple and only takes a few minutes.
Step 4
Reboot your computer. Make sure the installed bar is now visible at the top of the browser and working as expected. Then go to any website that contains pop-ups to check it out. If the software doesn't work well, uninstall it and try another one.
Step 5
Check your inbox. Make sure that you have enabled the anti-spam function and that you will not receive unnecessary and useless messages. Many sites, when clicking on their address, automatically subscribe visitors to advertising letters arriving in the mail. Unsubscribe from them in your inbox settings.
