Changing the port speed settings may be required if you need to increase the speed of your Internet connection. The operation does not require the use of additional software and implies a deep knowledge of computer resources.
Instructions
Step 1
Press the "Start" button to open the main menu of the system and go to the "Control Panel" item to perform the operation of editing the parameters of the COM and LPT ports.
Step 2
Expand the System link (Performance and Maintenance - System - for Windows XP) and select Hardware.
Step 3
Select the "Device Manager" section and click on the "+" sign in the "Ports" section.
Step 4
Call the context menu of the "Serial port COM1" item by right-clicking and select the "Properties" item.
Step 5
Go to the "Port parameters" tab of the properties window that opens and select the maximum possible value from the drop-down list in the "Speed (bps)" field.
Step 6
Return to the main menu "Start" and go to the "Run" item to edit the parameters of the channel bandwidth.
Step 7
Enter gpedit.msc in the Open field and click OK to confirm the command.
Step 8
Go to the Computer Configuration tab in the dialog box that opens and select Administrative Templates.
Step 9
Select "Network" and go to "QoS Package Manager".
Step 10
Expand the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) link and make sure the maximum computer bandwidth is selected.
Step 11
Return to the main menu "Start" and go to the "Control Panel" item to change the parameters of the maximum port speed of the modem.
Step 12
Expand the "Phone and Modem Options" component and go to the "Modems" tab of the dialog box that opens.
Step 13
Call the context menu of the modem to be configured by clicking the right mouse button and select the "Properties" item.
Step 14
Go to the "Modem" tab of the new dialog box and specify the desired speed in the "Modem Port Speed" directory.
