In order to raise the DNS server, you must first perform a number of preparatory measures. They consist of collecting basic information, obtaining Internic approval or choosing a self-used IP address. After that, you can proceed with the direct installation and configuration of the DNS server.
Instructions
Step 1
Obtain a permanent domain name for the server that will use the information on the Internet. If the server is being raised for internal use, then select the IP address and hostname yourself. Check the correctness of the operating system settings on your computer, which will be used as a DNS server.
Step 2
Allocate the available disk space and format it with NTFS file system, if other is used. This completes the preparatory stage. You can start raising the server.
Step 3
Open the main menu "Start" and select the section "Control Panel". Start the Add or Remove Programs component. Click on the "Add / Remove Windows Components" button. As a result, the component wizard will open, in which you need to check the box next to the "Network services" line and click on the "Composition" button. Check the line "Domain Naming System (DNS)", click "OK".
Step 4
Go to the "Start" menu and select the "Administrative Tools" section. Run the "Server Configuration Wizard". Open the Server Role tab and check the DNS Server box. Click Next to go to the Summary of Selected Options page. Please confirm that the information provided is correct. This will start the installation of the DNS service. Follow the prompts in the installation wizard to configure the server.
Step 5
Configure a static IP address for your DNS server. To do this, open the Local Area Connection dialog box and go to the Properties tab. Click on the line "Internet Protocol TCP / IP" and open its properties. Check the box next to "Use the following IP address" and enter all the required information. In the “Preferred DNS server” line, mark the IP address of your server, and leave the “Alternate DNS server” line blank. Click the "Ok" button and close the window.
