In order to distribute the Internet over a local network, you need to select a computer that will act as a server. It differs from a peer-to-peer network based on a server in that workstations or a group are managed by a specialized computer, which allows for high functionality.

How to set up a server on a network

It is necessary

  • - network hub or router;
  • - Internet access.

Instructions

Step 1

Select the computer that will play the role of the server. Since the server processes large streams of information, it needs a lot of power. It must also be equipped with two network adapters or a network card with two connectors.

Step 2

Purchase a network hub, router, or ADSL model with enough connectors to connect other computers to the server of your choice. In addition, you will need a special network cable consisting of four unshielded twisted pairs, a crimping device and the required number of connectors, which corresponds to the number of computers multiplied by 2.

Step 3

Connect the server to the internet. To do this, plug the provider's cable into the network connector and configure accordingly. Connect the network hub (switch) to the second network adapter of the server computer. Also connect other computers and laptops of the local network to the switch. If the modem has an antenna, you can also set up a wireless network, but it has a slow connection speed and depends on the location of the computer.

Step 4

Turn on the server and open Internet settings. Go to the "Access" tab and allow other devices on the local network to access your Internet. Go to the network connection settings of the second adapter and go to the properties of the Internet protocol TCP / IPv4. Check the box next to the static IP address and specify the value 191.168.0.1.

Step 5

Start other computers on the local network. Make the following settings on each. Open the "Network and Sharing Center", go to the "Change adapter settings" section, select the network connection shortcut, right-click on it and select "Properties".

Step 6

Open the properties of the Internet Protocol and enter the necessary data into it. The first field assigns the IP address to this computer, for example, 192.168.0.2. All further computers will be numbered 3, 4, 5, and so on. Then the subnet mask will appear. Next, enter the IP address of the server and save the settings.
