Laudable SDLs are much better than satellites in quality, because such projects are created for the benefit of society, but satellites are good precisely because they are not so difficult to create, although they are not useful at all.
Every webmaster would like to have a good project that people will like and that the audience will love. But for some reason, not everyone chooses exactly the SDL, but agree to deliberately reduce the quality of the site in order to earn as much as possible and as quickly as possible.
What are satellites good for?
All sites are created for the purpose of making a profit and, in theory, they are created to provide some kind of information or service to people. But that's in theory. In practice, it turns out that you can create a not-so-high-quality website and still make money. This is done by getting traffic from search engines for low-frequency queries or by using alternative traffic sources. You can monetize in any way, even with minimal traffic. And the simpler the site, the cheaper and faster its creation, which attracts webmasters. That is, they believe that it is possible to create several projects and establish a financial flow. Therefore, many webmasters, especially beginners, are guided by the creation of satellites.
Why SDL is better than satellites
The problem with any satellite is its short lifespan and low profitability. SDLs are devoid of such shortcomings, because they are liked by people, and, accordingly, by search engines. Since the audience is loyal to such projects, webmasters can make a fairly high profit from them.
However, it is not easy to create an SOM. Firstly, you need to competently think over the very idea of the project, but here you cannot do without a certain level of competence in the chosen area. Not every person can come up with a good website that people will like. Also, for the development of SOMs, you will need high-quality content, which is not so easy to get. Another drawback is that you will not be able to make a profit from such a project right away, because first you need to win the trust of people, make the site popular, and this takes a lot of time and money. And not every webmaster agrees to invest so much in the site, especially since the project may not gain popularity - there are always risks. Therefore, the Internet is constantly replenished with satellites.
But if you overcome all these problems, then in the future you can get a high-quality project that will provide the webmaster with a profit. It is also much more pleasant to develop a resource that is useful to people than to make unnecessary sites for anyone in batches.
If the SDL was able to gain popularity, the webmaster can only maintain it at the proper level, devoting a little time to his site. That is, it turns out that with the same level of income, the webmaster will have to spend much more time and money on maintaining a dozen satellites, while SOM requires less time, and it is more pleasant to work. Therefore, the SDL will always be much better than any satellite in the long run.
