Step 1
Each time you work on the Internet, a record is created in the host file about the ip-address of the visited site. When you access any site on the Internet, your browser (a program for working on the Internet) looks in the host file to see if the IP address of the site you are requesting is there. If such an entry is found, your computer requests a connection with the required ip-address, and the site opens. If the required entry is not found, the computer first makes a request for the IP-address to the provider, and then, having received it, opens the required site. Thus, the host file is a tool to reduce traffic and the operating time of opening the requested page.
Step 2
It would seem that the more ip-addresses are accumulated, the better. This is not entirely true, because the host file stores information not only about sites with useful content, but also random addresses, addresses of advertising sites. How to clean up a host to get rid of annoying ads and reduce traffic? To do this, you need to open the host file directly on your computer and conduct a thorough audit.
Step 3
On Windows, the default host file is system32driversetc. You can edit the host file in Notepad running as administrator. The user, at his discretion, can delete records from the host file, make new records, redirect advertising banners to the ip-address 127.0.0.1, this will allow filtering banner ads.
