The amount of information stored on the Internet is enormous. It is impossible to find anything manually among this data. Search engines are called upon to automate the process. They are computing systems that organize data and search by queries.

Step 1
The search engine servers are constantly running programs called bots. Bot is short for robot. In their behavior, they really resemble robots. By periodically visiting each site from the list stored on the server, they bring local copies of all texts in line with the current versions of the same texts on web pages. Bots follow all links that they encounter, and if they find a newly created page, they add it to the list and also create a local copy. Copies are not posted on the Internet - they are only integral parts of the process of obtaining a list of sites. This means that copyright infringement does not occur.
Step 2
Try to enter the same phrase several times into the same search engine. You will find that the results line up in the same order each time. It rarely changes, not more often than once a day. The reason for this is simple - the order of the search results is determined by a rather complex algorithm. The calculation takes into account the frequency of use of certain words on the pages, the number of links to this page located on other sites, as well as a number of other factors.
Step 3
Website owners, striving to bring their resources to the top of this list, are optimizing the texts posted on them. This optimization can be "white" - directly permitted by the rules of "search engines", "gray" - not allowed, but not prohibited, as well as "black" - directly prohibited. In the latter case, the site may soon disappear from the list forever. Optimization algorithms are often more complicated than search results sorting algorithms.
Step 4
After entering a keyword or phrase, the program on the server searches for matches in all local copies of the texts. The results are then sorted using the above complex algorithm. The content management system then automatically generates a page that is passed to the browser. At the request of the user, the following pages of the list can be generated: second, third, and so on.
