Step 1

Search and download a file. At this stage, the interface of any search engine will help you. Open the search engine page and enter the query: "download plug-in for WordPress Maintenance Mode". Among the search results, you need to select any resource that allows you to download this plugin to your computer. Download the file, then check it with an antivirus. If no virus is found, proceed to download it.

Step 2

Open the FTP access manager installed on your computer. Enter your username, password, and ftp-address of your site in the appropriate fields. In the "Protocol" column, set the value to 21 and click the connect button. After the site files become available for viewing in the FTP-manager, open the following folders in it in the order of the indicated order: "Public-HTML", "Your site folder", "WP-content", "Plugins". Unzip the downloaded plug-in to a separate folder on your computer, then drag it to the "Plugins" directory located on the server.

After the plugin is uploaded to the site, enter the following address in the address bar of your Internet browser: your site / wp-login. Using the provided form, log in to the site, then go to the plugins tab in the admin panel. Among all installed add-ons, find the Maintenance Mode plugin and activate it.

After activation, you should pay attention to the left side of the admin panel. A menu with the same name as the installed plug-in will appear in it. Go to this menu, and then configure the necessary add-on settings. Among the settings, you just need to specify the name of the site in the title and write the text that preventive work is being carried out on the resource. Now you just need to enable the plugin. The site will be displayed only for the administrator (set the appropriate parameter). A user who visits the resource while the plugin is running will see a notification page about the temporary shutdown of the site. After all work, turn off the "Maintenance Mode".
