The seventh generation game consoles (Wii and PlayStation 3) are equipped with interfaces for connecting to wired and wireless networks. Having such a console, you can not only play, but also visit Internet sites.
Instructions
Step 1
Obtain additional accessories for the console. These include primarily a conventional keyboard with a USB interface. Some devices also support a USB mouse - find out about this possibility from the instructions. For the Wii, additional accessories may be required: an SD card (for storing the browser) with a volume of exactly 512 MB (others may be unstable, and the console is unable to store data on a USB flash drive), as well as a Wii Ethernet Kit (aka Wii LAN Adapter), since this set-top box is equipped only with a wireless interface (WiFi), and cannot directly connect to a wired LAN. The set-top box itself may not be completely functional - the disk drive may not work for it; this will not affect the network capabilities of the game console in any way.
Step 2
Do not try to use 3G modems and other similar devices to connect the game console to the Internet - despite the presence of USB connectors, the device is not designed to work with such accessories. It is also recommended to refrain from using special adapters offered by manufacturers of consoles that allow you to connect the game console to the Internet through an existing computer. First, these accessories are compatible only with Windows, and even then not all versions; and secondly, it is inconvenient to turn on the computer whenever you need to access the Internet from a set-top box. Better get a router - wired or wireless (if necessary - with a built-in ADSL modem). Configure it to automatically distribute IP addresses using DHCP. Set a password on your wireless router. You can also install on a smartphone connected to the Internet at an unlimited rate, an application for the so-called tethering (distribution of Internet access via WiFi). In this case, setting a password is also required.
Step 3
Using the menu, put the set-top box in the mode of automatically obtaining an IP address from the router (how to do this depends on the model of the device). If you will be using a wired connection, connect the game console to the router with a straight-through cable (never crossover). When connecting wirelessly, start a search for a wireless access point and select the one that matches your router, then enter the password.
Step 4
If you are using a PlayStation 3, launch the built-in browser and try visiting a website. On the Wii, the browser will need to be downloaded first. After making sure that the SD card is installed, launch the "Shopping Channel", and in it select the "Internet Channel" application. Download it (it's free), install and run it - this is the browser (based on Opera). It supports Flash technology up to the seventh version inclusive, which allows you to run games of the corresponding format.
